CREATIVE CHANGE MAKERS- CAUSE ARTWORKS

Partner Organization: Hopewell Blue Zone Project

Title: Health is Wealth

Created by the Lamb Arts Creative Change Makers, 2024

Lamb Arts' Creative Change Maker Teens created this body of work, inspired by the work of Dr. Cliff Morris's Hopewell Blue Zone initiative.

Change Makers met with Dr. Morris and studied the concepts of Blue Zones around the world. Students honed in on what components lead to a healthy and thriving lifestyle in the Blue Zone framework, including healthy eating, physical activity, community building, time outdoors, minimizing stress, spiritual connectedness, and having a sense of purpose.

Change Makers were then tasked with photographing Blue Zone principles in their own lives. The group came together to choose the images that spoke most to them as well as text that they felt encapsulated the Blue Zone concepts.

The Creative Change Makers hope that this body of work inspires their fellow community members to invest in a healthy lifestyle.

Title: Healing Waters

Created by the Lamb Arts Creative Change Makers, 2023

This piece is available in the Hopewell Button Project.

This collaborative collage entitled "Healing Waters" was created by members of Lamb Arts’ Creative Change Makers Program. The use of denim was inspired by the international observance of Denim Day. The day is meant to bring awareness to Sexual Violence Awareness Month and is locally spearheaded by The James House, a Tri-Cities nonprofit organization helping people affected by sexual violence, domestic violence, and stalking. The Creative Change Makers were inspired by their work to create this piece in honor of the observance.

Title: Pinwheel Quilt

Created by the Lamb Arts Creative Change Makers, 2022

This piece is available in the Hopewell Button Project.

The Change Makers created this piece to raise awareness about child abuse prevention in support of Hopewell/Prince George Healthy Families. The pinwheel is used a symbol for the observance of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month each April. The Change Makers interpreted the pinwheel through the lens of a pinwheel quilt block, bringing in the symbolism of the protective nature and loving care found in handmade quilts.

Title: The Hexagon Project

Created by the Lamb Arts Creative Change Makers, 2023-2024

This piece is on permanent display at the Virginia State Capital.

This collaborative piece was designed by members of the Lamb Arts Creative Change Maker Teen Leadership Program. Through this initiative, Hopewell High School students and alumni reflected on the importance of their community coming together to work across differences for the greater good. The students chose the hexagon shape seen here to mimic the structure of a bee hive - symbolizing teamwork, resilience, and hard work. They then led workshops throughout the community inviting fellow students to create their own small works illustrating the things that make them feel proud of Hopewell. Those unique pieces were then combined to reflect the individual perspectives that make up our community.
